Overview:

This tour is specifically in Mabamba on the shores of Lake Victoria central Uganda.  You will be spending from 1 to 3 hours looking for the shoebill as it moves from places on its fish hunting journeys. The journey is through a natural water canal leading into lake Vitoria, sarounded by wetlands on either side

After enough time with the shoebill, you will retire to the mainland and transfer to Kampala or Entebbe for dinner and overnight, ending the trip.

  • Day 1 Kampala – Mabamba - Kampala
    After an early breakfast, you will be picked from Kampala. Drive for around 1 hour through the rural roads branching off Masaka road, towards Lake Victoria to the village of Mabamba. You will meet the experienced local guide by the lakeshores where the tour starts. In a natural wetland habitat, seek the shoebill through the channel. On the same tour, you will find other birds including; bee-eater, Swamp Flycatcher, Red-billed fire finch, Yellow-billed duck, Grey-headed gull, Black-winged stilt, Madagascar Yello-rumped Tinkerbird, Spur-winged Lapwing and many more, exploring a list of around 260 bird species resident to this wetland. You will encounter the shoebill at different intervals in different moods and settings. The tour gives a great scenario and you may capture the fascinating moment when the shoebill catches her prey.
