This trek starts at the Kilembe base camp located (1,450m). Kilembe is a 12 kilometers drive from Kasese or 32 kilometers from Queen Elizabeth national park. from Kasese town, you will be driving the scenic mountain roads twisting on the hill sides as you get introduced to the Rwenzori mountain terrain. By 9 am the team will be ready to set off for the climb. The latest time groups can start the trek is at 11:00am. The 2.5 km walk is tough but worth it because of its scenery. This walk leads you to the park gate (1727 m) for orientation about the park and the memorable trip you’re set for.
This is our premium Rwenzori trip that is tailored to take you to Margherita (5019m). However, the length of trekking depends on your choice and budget. We do have the different treks that include options of one to ten days and more, that you can pick from.
Day 1: Base camp to Saine hut (1450m – 2596m). Total altitude gain being 1146m, on a 5 – 7 hour trek of 8.6km.
Day 2 Saine hut – Mutinda camp (3688m). Total altitude gain being 1092m, on a 4 – 5 hours trek of 6.9 km. On arrival, you may choose to go on to Mutinda lookout with a breathtaking view at 3,925m
Day 3 Mutinda hut – Bugata camp (4062m). Total altitude gain is 374m, on a 4 – 5 hours trek of 6.8 km.
Day 4: Bugata camp – Butawu camp (3974m). It is 6.2km journey, the total altitude gain 388 meters at 4450 on the top of Bamwanjara Pass before you slop down to Butawu camp.
Day 5: Butawu camp – Margarita camp (4485m). Total altitude gain will be 511m on a 4.2km journey.
Day 6: Margarita camp – margarita peak (5109m) – Butawu camp (3974m). The total altitude gain will be 624m. Before descending 1135m, covering a total distance of 11.2km.
Day 7: Butawu camp – Bugata camp (4062m). After breakfast in a 6.2km journey starting with a steep climb on Bamwanjara pass. You will spend the night at Bugata camp.
Day 8: Bugata camp – Kiharo camp (3560m) or Samalira camp (3170m) Since it is necessary to skip one camp on this trip.
Day 9: Kiharo camp – Base camp (1450mm). Today you head out to the base camp.
Price for eight days trek is; Ugandans: 1250 pp/ Foreign residents: 1500$ pp
The price includes everything (Technical climbing equipment, food, porters, guides, rangers, park entrance fees).
The clients going on this trip will need to bring a sleeping bag of at least rating 2 degrees or higher. For those who didn’t carry one, sleeping bags are available for hire at the base camp.
